Archives of the Mundane: Zine-Making for Memory

This workshop will guide you through the making of your own booklet from concept, through layout, to binding. We will explore the many ways we experience the world around us through poetic observation of the mundane, the overlooked, the oft-forgotten. We will discuss the concept of valuable memory and playfully push its boundaries: what do we choose to forget and why? Our inspiration will be drawn from the seemingly simple nouns and verbs in our environment to [hyperfocus? and] document the minutiae that fuels our creative power. By the end of this workshop, you will have created and bound records for a living archive of daily adventure, open to be fed logs continuously as you roll through life. COURSE STRUCTURE: ◦ Our first encounter will focus on initial discussions and exercises, examples of booklet/zine conceptualizing and binding, and project prep. ◦ Our second encounter will be an intro to and lab for page layout both in an analog way and with free-access software (Affinity). ◦ Third encounter will be a makers’ lab and binding workshop, including the possibility to introduce your project to the group. No previous experience needed! I speak español, English, Deutsch and some português, and I look forward to you :)

- Anyone interested in making zines/books/publications/archives, storytelling, crafting, documenting, and exploring the self-inflicted boundaries of inspiration.
- What should I bring?
- No prior knowledge needed. For the first encounter, bringing any form of note-taking is advised. Participants should bring their laptops to the second encounter with Affinity downloaded (if they will be working with software), and examples and materials they find relevant for their project. Some materials will be provided, especially for the binding workshop (third encounter).
